View Full Version : War College warns military must prepare for unrest; IMF warns of economic riots

A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks. “Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security,” said the War College report. The study says economic collapse, terrorism and loss of legal order are among possible domestic shocks that might require military action within the U.S. U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., and U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., both said U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson brought up a worst-case scenario as he pushed for the Wall Street bailout in September. Paulson, former Goldman Sachs CEO, said that might even require a declaration of martial law.... Gov. Janet Napolitano’s office declined comment on emergency planning and possible civil unrest. Napolitano is president-elect Barack Obama’s pick for secretary of Homeland Security that oversees airport security, disaster response, border security, customs and anti-terrorism efforts. As governor, Napolitano sent National Guard troops to Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in 2003 in response to terrorism threats [SIC].

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn warned Wednesday of economy-related riots and unrest in various global markets if the financial crisis is not addressed and lower-income households are hurt by credit constraints and rising unemployment....

The economy is in recession. Consumer spending is down, foreclosures are up and a host of businesses are laying off workers and struggling with tight credit and the troubled housing and financial markets. The U.S. Federal Reserve Bank and U.S. Treasury Department have pumped more than $8.5 trillion into the economy via equity purchases of bank stocks, liquidity infusions, Wall Street and bank bailouts and taxpayer rebates. U.S. automakers are seeking more than $14 billion in federal loans with fears they could fall into bankruptcy without a bailout. The U.S.... recession also has hit economies in Europe, Japan and China....

It's bizarre!

Yesterday, there was a story on msnbc, the IMF Pres. going on about how 2009 is in the toilet. That unless people go out and spend like mad the economies will collapse.

Next I heard a quick NPR Interview on Sunday with the re-born hero of economics, Robert Reich. He was quoting the Kensian model right down the line... "Government needs to spend, spend spend!"

So it seems everyone's fix for all this out of control debt, which has consumed our economy is either:
A) for people to commit financial suicide, with more debt, or
B) government needs to remove even more available credit by deficit spending, and inflating.

Lovely!
Everyone's fix is "doing more of the same, expecting a different result."

Meanwhile the whole bailout spending spree continues, like that money doesn't count. Like it's "off budget" and isn't really happening. I have, so far, heard three different figures for how much paper they've thrown at the Banksters; all between $4.6 trillion and $8 trillion. It's obscene.

Taken with our current acknowledged debt of $10 trillion, it means we're talking a debt between $14 and $!8 trillion. I wonder why that hasn't been acknowledged in the Nat'l Debt figures?

Back in July-ish I predicted to some folk that by that time next year we'd probably be sitting at about $30-35 trillion. So far, seems I am on track. And that is the "on budget debt", not the "real debt"!

If you do real accounting, like the folk in the real world must, and count the government's total obligations, it gets real fun! In July the govt's total obligations, including Medicare, Social Security, etc was approx. $50 trillion!

The $10 trillion places something like $37,000 in debt on each person in the country. But, at the rate it's growing...
If you have a child just starting out in school now, by the time they reach college age, they will already have a debt load of roughly $400,000. Now, where will the money come from with that kind of debt load around for things like student loans? Ain't happening!

And when you think about what the taxes will be then, just to service that kind of debt load, who will be able to "save" for such things?

And yet, all the MSM "experts" are advising the same song... "Spend!

Strauss-Kahn says advanced countries would see violent civil unrest if elite continue to exploit financial chaos for their own ends

The head of the International Monetary Fund has warned that advanced nations will be hit by violent civil unrest if the elite continue to restructure the economy around their own interests while looting the taxpayer.

During a speech in Madrid, Dominique Strauss-Kahn said that “social unrest may happen in many countries - including advanced economies” if governments failed to adequately respond to the financial crisis.

“He added that violent protests could break out in countries worldwide if the financial system was not restructured to benefit everyone rather than a small elite,” reports the Guardian.

Strauss-Kahn’s comments echo those of others who have cautioned that civil unrest could arise, specifically in the U.S., as a result of the wholesale looting of the taxpayer and the devaluation of the dollar.

Widely respected trends forecaster Gerald Celente recently told Fox News that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts.

Back in October, Senator Chris Dodd said that revolution would unfold if banks refused to lend money.

“If it turns out that they are hoarding, you’ll have a revolution on your hands. People will be so livid and furious that their tax money is going to line their pockets instead of doing the right thing. There will be hell to pay,” Dodd told the New York Times.

Last month, leading economist Nouriel Roubini said that food riots would be the ultimate consequence of the Federal Reserve and the Treasury’s current policies.

Riots and demonstrations have gripped normally sedate Iceland following a financial catastrophe that has wiped out half of the krona’s value and put one third of the population at risk of losing their homes and life savings.

Expectations of violent civil unrest have not gone unnoticed by the U.S. Army War College’s Strategic Institute, who recently issued a report warning that the United States may experience massive civil unrest in the wake of a series of crises which it terms “strategic shock.”

The consequence? The necessity to use “military force against hostile groups inside the United States,” according to the report.

Tens of thousands of active duty military personnel returning from Afghanistan and Iraq are set to conduct “homeland patrols” inside the U.S. and their duties will include tackling “civil unrest and crowd control,” according to a Northcom announcement earlier this year.

A movie I just watched that illustrates martial law was The Siege with Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis just substitute the Muslin bashing with any group of people. I doubt during martial law that any military official are held accountable for their brutality, aren’t they protected from prosecution?

The signs of the times we live in, the worst is yet to come.

Thanks guys, while I may have my head buried in Document research and trying to put it into simple to understand terms for all, we all need to know these things too. It is vital to keep aware of the current events both close to home and around the world. Stay awake, keep on the watch, we do not know what day or hour the King returns, but we are to know the "season" and are commanded to make it known.

Remember, one third will be brought through this coming global disaster. That means that two thirds won't be able to tell their asses from a hole in the ground, they will never be able to understand.
