Have you looked at some of those newer drinks on the market? Those energy drinks?
We humans have a built in mechanism for quick energy, its adrenaline. I would suspect some humanoid species would not have this mechanism and would need a supplement, like maybe a lizard, as is on the label of the SoBe Adrenaline Rush drink.
