Just a little mathematical review which is very compelling.
by Dr. Albert Bartlett, Professor Emertus, Department of Physics, University of Colorado
“Arithmetic, Population, and Energy”
Even just the first part will amaze you... but there are 8 parts if you have time.
From Dr. Bartlett's presentation... of the problems facing our planet... and how much time do we have left?
We have to balance the equation and get to zero growth. We are as close as 2 minutes before noon (12pm) (watch video to understand.)

Thank you KathyT,
A most interesting first post by you. :) Taken on the whole it would appear that we, on this planet, are soon to be in deep doo doo because of over population. Without having to watch the whole sequence of videos, what are Dr. Bartlett's conclusions? I did watch the two segments you posted.
Overall, I would have to agree that there could be a problem with over population if, "IF" mankind were to stay only on this one planet.

Norval, I think he may have briefly stated it at the beginning:
“The arithmetic is not that difficult.”
“The Greatest Shortcoming of the Human Race is Our Inability to Understand The Exponential Function.”
And I think he wants everyone to Think! He wants students and the public to realize what may happen in the next lifetime (not his). He used examples of government bodies (local city council, local county government, state government, and our Congress) making decisions based on “unfactual” vs. "factual" data. He wants to encourage people to look behind the meaning of (examples) “crime has doubled in 10 years”, or “oil production this decade has exceeded ALL production of the past 10 years”. To encourage people to look for facts themselves, to find out just how much is left on this planet in terms of mineral reserves, oil reserves, space to grow food/agriculture, the availability of both clean water for drinking, and water sufficient to grow the food and agriculture for the entire planet. And to realize what the planet’s increasing population rate (around 1.17% per year) will mean our planets population, if it continues at that rate, will double in slightly less that one lifetime, or about 60 years (70 divided by 1.17) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_population_growth_rate
Do we all want our children to be living in a world where the population has gone from 6 billion to 12 billion in 60 years?
I know here in Calif, in the Sacramento Valley, currently the worlds richest farming area, the land is pretty much all in production… and, even more constricting, is the fact that water in this valley is “shrinking”. The reason it is shrinking is because the increasing population in Southern California (e.g. L.A.) continues to require more and more, all delivered via the aqueducts from Northern California. And only so much rain falls, and so how do you split up what is needed for the agriculture of the valley, and the populations of all the cities which are drawing from this same watershed? California has a 3.79% annual growth, which means it’s population will double in 18 years at today’s rates. How will double the population in California be handled 18 years from now?
Overall, I would have to agree that there could be a problem with over population if, "IF" mankind were to stay only on this one planet.
Do you think all of us Earth’s citizens should be planning today, and planning the tomorrows of the next 20 years based on a concept that we’re going to move millions if not billions of individuals to another planet within this same timeframe?
I found a lot of value to the series of his lecture... it was simple enough for most people to follow.

I'll go for, Reducing the population.
How about:
Disease
Famine
War (my personal favorite)
Once that is done, we can live happily ever after, maybe, if we survive.....

But war has not so far caused significant population reduction.
(Note that I said "so far")
Has it? (I could be wrong)
I think their plans include a combo of reduction programs.

So far there have only been minor or local population control. (wars, conflicts)
Areas of high population have been spared.
I feel not so, in the future.

KathyT,
Thank you, that is what I was hoping for, he shows how to get the truth from numbers. Often it is the question that can get the truth that must be asked.

As I am a researcher of the document that is commonly called the Bible from the perspective that it is the message from ET, I, and others, we know the following is a very high probability.
1. Two thirds of earth inhabitants will be killed in the coming battle known as Armageddon.
2. Yes, many of mankind are going out amongst the galaxies of this universe.
3. Those that have lived and died will be brought back to life and have the same opportunity as those that are now living.
