Digital drop out I suspect by the software.

Norval, I have only read one account of the "digital dropout" effect, that one was re. the recent "Atlantis off Africa found on Google" stories, so I'm nowhere near conversant on it. 'Bout smart enuff to ask dumb questions", really. But the first pic posted by Gary, right after the EweToob link...

Isn't that a bit "complex and detailed" to be a software anomaly?

As I am not much of a google fan, I use other software and data bases to world search, it is a common problem in compression of images. Note that the land in the image is just blurry but not "blocky" looking. The software tends to "average out" areas of very similar color and more so where there is very little "detail" to work with like ocean or lake surface images Occasionally I have seen this in digital pictures from space of other planets and moons. Also I have seen this effect in my own experimenting with compression ratios in image editing software. Another factor would be the sonar or depth sounding devises that would easily show these bottom contours as such, but is not the case.

There are some strange underwater developments that are "secret", yet when you go over them in your boat with the depth sounders on it shows flat or curved areas that are just not normal.

I have found that jumping up and down over every possibility just makes the probability of real stuff less impacting and greatly detracts from the true stuff out there. This has become the bane of real researchers. :(
