Living in the south west us affords me the ability to get to see some interesting advancements the fedral government is making on our rights. One as many know is the suspicionless border partol checkpoints at random places on interstates and freeways, most of which run east to west and never intersect the border. One of these checkpoints is very much permanent as it has been there for 30 years, but only since 911 has it been manned constantly. As a side note the fact that this position has been around that long tells me that this whole movement has been many years in the planning.

Recently I made a trip from San diego to Phoenix, on the way out I went through one checkpoint between yuma and Gila Bend, passage was fairly uneventful, the standard "are you a US citizen". On the way back from Phoenix I went through 3 of these checkpoints, only the second is of any real importance.

At this checkpoint again I was asked was a US citizen, to which i replied " I am a citizen of California", the agent then asked me where I was come from, I informed him that I was coming from arizonia, he asked me where I was going, and I told him California. I understand that I was being vague, and the tone of my response was " can't you tell where I am coming from and going by the fact that I am on a road that goes between those two points", I was polite but made no mistake that I was not apreciating his questions. He then asked " what were you doing in arizona" while he was scoping the bed and extra cab of my truck. This was where I was done with his questions. Normally I am even more indignant to the very first question, but this was beyond what i found acceptable. I do not have to tell him where I went, am going, or what I was or am going to do, and I was not giving up those rights.

I told replied with " How is that an immigration question?" he told me to answer the questions. I replied to him " You do not have the authority to ask me that question, and its none of your business". I knew this would win me a special trip to secondary inspection, a place I am very familar with. He asked me to "pull into secondary", to which I replied "secondary what?", he stated "secondary inspection". I asked him if I was being detainable, and he said just pull over there into secondary, I said ok then lets play. Now I know these aren't what most of you would consider reasonable responses on my part, but these are not reasonable checkpoints or reasonable people. As I pulled into secondary i told the agent to go get his supervisor.

There was an agent posted at the secondary area, who looked at us baffled, and then looked to the first agent, they met and exchanged words which I did not hear, and the secondary agent took the first agents post at the point.

This agent approached from the passenger side and demanded to see our "immigration documents", Precisely what he said was, " Where are your immigration documents?" Me and my passenger were dumb founded for a moment and he asked for them again. His supervisor was now standing next to him. I replied I told you my citizenship, and I do not need any documentation to travel these roads, I have the right to passage. He stated to reply, and his supervisor stopped him, and sent him back to point. The supervisor turned to address us and I told him, " I don't have to have any documents, and I don't have to tell you or your agent where Iwas, where I am going, or what I am doing, or have done" to this he responded "No you don't have the right to go where ever you want to when you want to, you do have to have documents, and you do have to answer the questions.

ladies and Gentlemen, I was floored, I have offically been asked for my traveling papers, and informed that I do not have unalienable rights.

The conversation went on for sometime, in which the supervisor tried to convince me and my passenger that they have a legitmate right and need to have those docs, and ask and have answers to the questions, because thats how they find bad guys. I told him and stood on the fact that he does not have the need nor the right, and I am not going to submit to his claim to authority.

It took a half an hour, but in the end the agent relized he had one of two choices, arrest us, or concede that we did in fact have the rights we claimed, and that he had no reason or authority to choice number 1. He chose to give up and let us continue, since the second choice we were obviously ready for, and willing to accept, and he knew that the end result would be him wasting his own time, since we stated that spending time there was not an issue, and our point was to be there and do whatever it took to stand on our rights, and getting a couple minutes down the road was not a big sacrifice for us to make to do that.

In the end this is what happened, I was asked for papers, in plain language, without hiding, I was told I had no rights.

If you don't find this compelling, wait till you see and hear about what was further down the road.

Quite some miles down the road, and after calling a few people to inform them that the New SS had actually came out with their "Vhere are your PAPERS!" i passed a billboard sign. No big deal right there are many billboard signs along the road. This one I actually turned around and drove 15 miles back to the previous exit so I could see it again.

It read:

"Do You Have"
"Approved"
"Travel"
"Documents"
"To Get Home?"

I have no words for how I felt right then.

The sponsors on the billboard were, "Western Hemisphere Travel Intitiative" WHTI
"GETYOUHOME.gov"
and The Department of Homeland security

If you do a few quick web searches on these agencies you will find all you need to know.

And yes I am aware that they claim for land or sea ports of entry, but it is not stipulated only for those ports, and the simple fact is these agents have been trained to demand documents whenever they interact with us, where ever that may be.

If you are new to these goings on, just wait, and listen to the stories of what is happening, If you know about these goings on, well just wait, its just getting started.

I seen other such stories, and the info at the website getyouhome.gov makes them sound possible.
