I did a search after reading the Dalai Lama had received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and Obama is visiting the Dalai Lama today.
The biography page was an interesting read, with quotes from the Dalai Lama's addresses to different groups like "leaders of the Roman Catholic and Jewish communities and spoke at an interfaith service in his honour by the World Congress of Faiths" and "talked with many Westerners" and the Vatican.
The last three sentences on this biography page is a quote from some address the Dalai Lama made, must be prior to or during 1990 or could have been from his speech in 1989.
It is the realization that even our enemy is entirely motivated by the quest for happiness. We must recognize that all beings want the same thing that we want. This is the way to achieve a true understanding, unfettered by artificial consideration.
The 14th Dalai Lama, The Nobel Peace Prize 1989 (http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/1989/lama-bio.html)
His use of a few certain words show he has a good suspicion of who the enemy is.
