Puzzling tremors felt from Sooke to View Royal
Did you feel an earthquake-like rumbling today?
We have had a series of inquiries from residents asking about powerful tremors that may have been centered in Sooke, but have also been felt as far east as View Royal.
The first occured at quarter to 11 this morning; the second at 2 o'clock this afternoon. One caller in the Sooke area tells us the first shake was so fierce he went running for a doorway, and the second was even stronger.
The Pacific Geo Science Centre confirms the shaking was not an earthquake.
The Department of National Defense insists they are not holding any training exercises today and are not responsible for the tremors. Calls to local blasting companies, the district of Sooke, the RCMP, the Sooke Fire Dept., and a radio station in Port Angeles have also failed to shed any light on the mysterious rumbling.
South of the border, the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station says they didn't have any aircrafts operating today due to heavy winds.
